Who We Are
GloveGrind is a small, independent team of combat sports coaches, competitive fighters, and longtime gym rats. Our core contributors include a Muay Thai coach with over a decade of cornering experience, a former amateur boxer turned strength coach, a BJJ purple belt who has gone through more gi pants than she can count, and an MMA gym owner who has outfitted hundreds of students with gear that needed to survive daily abuse. We're not journalists who parachuted into combat sports because it's trending — this is our daily life, and GloveGrind is an extension of the conversations we already have in the gym about what's worth buying and what's a waste of money.
Why We Started This Site
The idea for GloveGrind came from a simple, recurring frustration: students and training partners constantly asked us what gloves, wraps, mouthguards, and headgear to buy, and we were tired of answering the same questions one-on-one with no central place to point people. At the same time, we noticed that most "review" sites in the boxing and MMA space were thin on real testing and heavy on affiliate link padding, recycling the same five products across every list regardless of whether they actually held up. We wanted something different — a site where every recommendation came from actual use, where we'd tell you honestly if a popular brand's flagship glove was overhyped, and where a $40 budget pick could beat a $150 pair if the padding and durability earned it.
How We Review and Pick Products
Every product that appears on GloveGrind goes through a hands-on evaluation process before we write a word about it. Here's what that looks like in practice:
- Real training use: Gloves, wraps, shin guards, and protective gear are used in actual sparring, bag work, pad sessions, or live rolling — not just unboxed and photographed. We log hours, not minutes.
- Durability tracking: We revisit gear after weeks and months of use to check seam integrity, padding compression, odor retention, and wear patterns, then update our reviews if something that looked good on day one falls apart by week six.
- Multiple testers, multiple body types: Hand size, weight class, and training style all affect how gear performs, so we get feedback from testers of different sizes and disciplines rather than relying on one person's opinion.
- Side-by-side comparisons: When we review a product, we compare it directly against established competitors in the same price range so our rankings reflect genuine relative value, not isolated praise.
- Price-to-performance analysis: We weigh cost against protection, build quality, and longevity, because the most expensive option isn't automatically the best one for every budget or goal.
- Coach and athlete input: Beyond our core team, we regularly consult working coaches and competitive athletes to sanity-check our conclusions against what's actually trusted in gyms and fight camps.
What Makes GloveGrind Trustworthy
We don't accept payment for favorable reviews, and we don't let any brand preview or approve content before it publishes. GloveGrind may earn a commission when you purchase through some links on our site, but that commission never determines our rankings — products we genuinely dislike get called out even if they're a top advertiser elsewhere, and products we love get recommended even when the affiliate payout is small. We clearly mark when we've received a product for free to test, and we disclose our affiliate relationships on every relevant page, because transparency is the only way a review site earns the right to be trusted by people spending their hard-earned money on gear that protects their hands, teeth, and brain.
We also believe in updating rather than abandoning our content. Gear lines change, manufacturers cut corners or improve quality over time, and new brands enter the market constantly. Rather than publishing a review once and letting it go stale, we revisit our top guides regularly to make sure the recommendations still hold up against current products and current prices.
Our Mission Going Forward
GloveGrind exists to save you from buying gear that falls apart after a month, protects less than it claims to, or costs more than it's worth. Whether you're a beginner buying your first pair of gloves for a boxing fitness class, a competitive amateur gearing up for your first MMA fight, or a longtime coach outfitting a gym full of students, our goal is the same: give you honest, specific, experience-based guidance so you can spend your money once and train with confidence. We'll keep testing gear in real gyms with real sweat, because that's the only kind of review we'd trust ourselves.
